It is curious the governments deision to increase the retirement age. The lifespan of the generation that fed off home grown vegetables is vast, they're living past 90. The babyboomers, the swinging 60s, hippies, glam rockers, northern soul boys had discovered drink and drugs. They'll be dropping at 65 -70. My generation hit it all much harder. The drugs were harder and we battered ourselves. I had 12 close friends die in my late 20s and 30s. The next wave is just starting. Many travellers are dieing at 50. The artists and bohemians of my generation, well there organs are starting to fail. The fumes in the air, the chemicals in our food, the cigarrettes, drugs and drink from early teens. The 3 Ramones died within 3 years of each other. My lot aren't going to make 66. People aren't dieing older for much longer. The slump is starting now. It would have been Richards 40th 5 days ago.

Helen Chadwick and Piss

Whilst we are on the subject of piss I would like to mention how the famous work Piss Christ influenced me as a student though not nearly as much as Helen Chadwicks' Piss Flowers. One of the first exhibitions that revivded my interest in fine art was Helen Chadwicks Efluvia. Even now, looking back at the catalogue still inspires me. By chance I met Helen before her untimely death. I had followed her work. I saw her plywood screenprint 3d work in Oxford but a chance visit to Witley Court in Herefordshire found her clearing water from her carpet work, I think entitled Rachel. I offered to help and we cleared away the rainwater damage together. To me, she remains a seriously important artist. At the time it must have been just prior to the YBA explosion.
Her Piss Flowers, casts of the space made in snow by her and her male collaborator in bronze inverted percieved sexual empowerment, the female piss being hotter, deeper creating a far more magnificent cast than the wind cooled penis piss of the male. These negative spaces, cast in bronze, painted white and inverted had a powerfull effect on me. Subsequent negative space casts that followed such as Rachel Whitereads house never heald a fraction of thier power.
If thier is a single artist I would put forward for serious reavaluation it would be Helen.
Despite her timing, pre YBA, post feminist, I never felt her work could be neutred by gender politics, as so many critics have tried to. She was female and made work from her own perspective. To tangle it up in the gender battles of others serves only to diminish her works power. Any artist only can speak from their perspective and to belittle her work, largely by male critics is missing the point.
She is certainly one of the best artists whose lifespan mine has crossed.

Everything turned out ok, U2 pulled out, apparently Bono couldnt find what he was looking for in time. However, one can't help but get suspicious when The Edge did turn up, [it's under his hat Bono, think about it!]. This allowed Gorrilaz to allow Mark e Smith and the Snoopy d d double jezzle to sail to Plastic Beach. Glad to be out of the sun, phew.

Great day for sport too as Leeds RL returned to winning ways with a 30 37 victory over the mighty Warrington. Sadly I found this cross of St George wig someone must have lost. As a sport fan I understand that it must hold huge sentimental value to the owner, whichever team they follow. So comment and we will return it to it's owner. After a slow start and many an injury hiccup it looks like Leeds may just pull through. We are the holders of an unpresedented third title and a fourth is beyond dream yet, who knows. Come on LEEDS.

Sadly, the visual retort to the work of Craig Venter has been deemed immoral due to nudity by You Tube though it heald nothing of a sexual nature. The path of the Artist is beset on all sides by moral custodians unable to accept normal, bodily functions. Exploration in to the nature of the body, through science, however immoral is apparently acceptable. The double standards of decisions like this merely reveal the depth of corruption in the minds of those that seek to censor all nudity.
The title of the post, incidentally was Piss Off. If any skreeworld follower is responsible for this I would be curious to have an incite in to thier thinking so as to understand how they have come to see the human body in a purely sexual way.

Human genetic information must be kept in the public domain to allow researchers to analyse it and give members of the public fair access to medical treatments says the leader of Britains contribution to the human genome project yesterday. Speaking at the Science museum Sir John Hulston said scientists and lawmakers must stop cynical individuals and evil corporations.
Already in the US it costs a woman £3000 for a breast cancer test because a corporation owns the patent for the 2 genes involved.
He is particularly concerned about Craig Ventner, the Vietnam veteran who earlier this month claimed to have created life. Though his work is clever his objective is an attempt to monopolise through the patenting system the essential tools for genomic manipulation.
'The tools for manipulating genomes should be in the public domain. This is not just a philosophical point of view, it's actually the case that monopolistic control of this kind would be bad for science, bad for consumers and bad for buisness, because it removes the element of competition.'
Before the Human Genome Project completed its first draft in 2000, Sulston had fought to keep genome data freely accessible to researchers. At the same time, Venter was racing to sequence the human genome through his company, Celera, with the intention of charging researchers for access to the information.
In 2000 the 2 sides brokered a deal through the mediation of the UK and US governments and the human genome was put in the public domain.
In the decade since the idea of the UK 10,000 Genomes Project has been working on comparing rare varients and common varients that make differences to many complaints. About 4000 genomes will be sequenced from healthy people who are already part of large scale project to monitor a range of biological and health factors such as height and body weight.
Their genetic data will be compared with genome sequences from 6000 people who have specific disorders including severe obesity, autism, schizophrenia and congenital heart disease.

Four Leaf Clover

Doctors treating a young driver who survived a crash despite being speared through the chest with a fencepost found a four leaf clover stuck to his back.
Raymond Curry, 20, was on his way to work when his vauxhall corsa overturned and rolled through a fence into a field near his home in Cramlington, Northumberland, on 13th june.
He was flown to hospital with the post which fortunately missed all major organs, still in his body. Before he underwent surgery to remove the post and part of his bowel, Curry told the Evening Chronicle that he had felt incredible pain and believed he was going to die.

Me and Tex went out for our evening scour of the town. We like to walk through the alcohol induced violence, the trendy over dressed 'in' wankers, coked up, looking for the feeling thier fading testosterone has deprived them of, the fast food fights, the desperately seeking impregnation look fading females hoping a baby could save them. Caught the offy afore it shut, bought backy and special brew. Wandered down town, had a chat with the crack selling witch, then sat outside the Cheese and Grain where I could hear the Stranglers playing their last few numbers. My back against the wall, Tex sniffing fast food discards, I listened to them play, 'Down in the Sewer', I bought Rattus Norvegicus 30 years ago for £2.80. It still sounds good despite their ostrasizeation for using strippers, 'I feel like a wog', and their use of heroin, not to mention their battering the middle class Strummer types. They still stand tall. The Clash were pretty crap, politicizing the Sex Pistols art. If history is written true, from the front of the stage, The Sex Pistols came first, the Stranglers second and the Clash were for the students, but they mixed with thier school mates and ex public school boys may think them significant. The Stranglers did it without political, public school , bum chummery. The Stranglers, had they not coincided with punk would be legends. Well, they are, just not in that tight little knot that write history. The Stranglers, like Mark E Smith were banned from Glastonbury till this year, Mark for one sarky line in a song about CND. The Fall are a bit above the heads of Eavis and co. Lets face it, bumpkins aren't too worldly.

The soil displaced to sink a body stood propped twixt 2 sheet of marine ply yesterday. They bury them a bare 3 foot under here, easily within a foxes range. Today the poor fella was under and turf was all to see, mabe it's the clay soil. Earlier in the year, whilst in he grave yard in Bath, badgers had dug a home. Me and Kipper retrieved human bones but no skull. I threw mine from the van window. They shouldnt be disturbed. They dug up Carravagio, the wild fighting artist and a great one too. To find out what? that those lead paints made him mad? Now they plan to disinter Da Vincis remains. For Gods sake leave him be. Hasn't he given you enough?

Look Upward

All scientists do is look down. They may know there are more than 4 dimensions but they don't act like it, there are at least 12 so we have no chance of knowing what the hell is going on. Ants are as unaware of our world as we are of 'the gods' or what you see if you look up. If there is a down, like the amoeba then it would be illogical to think that there isn't an up. So keep your eyes, well all senses peeled for first hand religious experience and get it where you can, be it meditation, drugs or just letting it in.

Blasphemy 1

The importance of blasphemy is important as religion. Disbelief and the bravery to believe in yourself over what others wrongly believe is as important as 'belief'. There is no longer any blasphemy in not believing in God, it is greater blasphemy to not believe in evolution and the Darwin orthodoxy. I have been and always will be a blasphemer. The blasphemer is the child in the crowd who not only sees that the Emporer is naked but shouts, 'He's wearing no clothes!'
So lets start up some blaspheming. Tracy Emin is a shit artist. If you can't see this you are just following the crowd or need glasses. She isn't up to foundation standard yet. Her prepubescent angst would embarass a teenager, her misguided belief that her life is in anyway interesting to anyone but herself makes me cringe. Her lack of abillity to communicate, draw, her weak ideas.
Of course, these blasphemous words will fall on deaf ears for too many in the art world have invested belief and money in her crap. I am no Sewell but Tracy Emin is truly crap. With so much great work out there, why is this redundant charity case still in the public eye. Wake up, you all let this one slip through, because she was your friend, because she had balls, because any determined rough arse can scare middle class arty types, I know, I've done it.

Frank Sidebottom - Chris Sievey RIP

A lot of dieing sadly, of late. Frank Sidebottom and his creator have died from cancer though cheerful to the last on his blog though he did admit he was still vry poorly. Hale will be a less colourful place without Chris and Timperley without Frank, the talentless big headed pop failure who lived with his Mam. Just last week he released the world cup anthem 'Three Shirts on my line'.

We're playing it tonight in your memory Frank, and Chris, you'll be sadly missed.

Since his crucifixion I had quite forgotten who he was, his life seems to have been his great Art work with an impeccably timed departure, a week in to a run of a show at Soho theatre based on his memoirs, from a heroin overdose.

He became known as the mole man yet was made to live on the top floor of a tower block. No one knew why. Outside his 20 room detached house the pavement collapsed. Hackney council suspected subsidence. The retired civil engineer had dug a network of tunnels stretching up to 20 metres underground. He was ordered to pay £293,000 to repair the damage. They also found a boat and three renaults buried undergrond in Mortmer Road from where he was evicted. Gardiner opted to be shot due to the frequent failures of lethal injection. Amethod designed to make murder appear like a clinical opperation. The needle is fixed in to the vein that carries first Pavulon, a muscle relaxent so anyone watching is preserved any discomfort, Potassium Chloride, to stop the heart and Sodium Thiopental, a lethal poison, none of the painkiller overdoses of Shipman. Ronnie Lee Gardiner was able to twitch, rile a little and raise his arm as far as the strap would let him. A terribly sad life and death. But America is backwards in many ways. As the rest of the world moves on they slowly catch up, like a big, lumbering oaf we are too scared to disagree with.

Robert Ford. A favourite film of mine. I am always in tears by the end. It takes me to many points from my childhood till now. From the busts at school for having mushroom parties where one after another teachers picked off the weak who all pointed the finger at me, the one with a disfunctional family, the one with least to lose. The whole shitstrorm landed on me as they all cried in to thier mothers laps. They caused Martins death. I, fortunately rose above things, put stuff aside for a few years and despite my no O levels or qualifications got a first at university. I was brought up with a code from my father, drink, never hit women and never grass. To this day I have never grassed to any authority. The grass is the lowest lifeform, even the filth hate them, even they respect a man with a code of honour, even if it isnt thier own.

From there I went to Bath to see Jez Broun who I am eternally thankful to for his computer help. The man is a flawed genius, are there anyother types?

For the second time in as many months I have found mself trying to by work back off people I sold it to years ago. The work needs restoring but is worth more now. What should I do?

The best argument against conceptual art is that a concept or an idea is a inguistic construct. This is fact, not oppinnion. If an idea is a linguistic construct then the best way to express this is through a piece of writing. An artwork can only act as a milestone on the thought journey.
Today I read Anthony Gormleys quote about his new White Cube gallery show, 'We are minds enclosed in bodies enclosed in architecture', This thinking was blown away back in the 1940s 50s like the flat earth theory. The mind and body are one thing not two. Descartesa myth of the host in the machimne, the discredited view that is still entenched in language had it that he computer of the brain controlledthe robotr of the body. Yoga iscredited this years back, Gilbert Ryles 'Concept of Mind' blew it away in philosophy in his masterwork. Candacxe Pert, neuroscientist finally even nailewd the mechanichs of it in her book, 'Molecules of Emotion'.
To hear a well respected artist spouting this tripe is embarrassing. How can anyone take Gormley seriously after this? I have nothing against him pursuing his journey but please no public funding for this retard whose ideas are very dangerous for thought on all levels.

Sparrowhawk update

She is still at on her eggs though they must be very close to hatching now. I got this shot from a different angle without spooking her. Kids and adults walk underneath thier nest blind to them, thank fuck. I watched demoisel and damsel flies in abundance down our river bank. Saw a strange dragonfly I didn't recognise but couldnt get a decent shot. As i walked back I bumped in to a young lad who had snared a baby rabbit. The warren is far from being a problem and thinning them out is stupid. Whilst I had respect that he was taking time to look outdoors I think I may take him under my wing. Lend him my spare airrifle and take him out shooting, far more fun and show him to just take the old so the warren flourishes, there is nothing wrong with keeping the warren healthy but I can not approve of killing next years rabbits. Here lies the saddness, those who are interested in wildlife need to be kean, thoughtful and stalthy. The majority see none of this yet often express strong views. I'll try get the lad to come out at dawn on sunday for a few hours shooting. The woodpigeons are well overpopulated. Teach him to be like the sparrowhawk. The river is now full of fish and I spent an hour watching them rise this evening. There are plenty of crayfish for the taking round here. It is good to feed on wild meat but there are rules. We all draw our own. Mine are about sustaining our field fare and eating meat without factory farming.

I will keep updates of the sparowhawk chicks though I won't tell anyone where they are.
