If we must accept that we are never likely to know what is really going on, just ever expanding fractal layers of fresh theories disproved, replaced by fresh ones, in onion layers, then maybe it is wisest to opt for the most functional story. This is what evolution would do. The best way of surviving would trump the others. A deep belief in god certainly works as a great survival tool. But we can not believe what we donor believe. Only a unified culture can sustain a singular faith. How do we find a functional survival theory in our post religious age?
