Did some tunneling today near Shepton Mallet. The disused quarry network which has been mapped by Skreeworld though we were refused official paperwork is an ongoing project using GPS. However, todays discoveries are of a totally different network. It is Reformation era linking up several churches and reigious sites. Priestholes are common in older buidings in the area yet the scale of this labyrinth is impressive, Catholics on the run had thier escape network well sorted. Just walking with our high powered torches fills one with awe at how Catholisism was driven underground and thier candle lit journeys of escapologist terror have left thier emotional imprint in the tunnels. Our map is growing. For me the religious underground network, though smaller in size, holds a far more exciting appeal. The underground world has as much as the overground. We still havnt done the Frome tunnel network nor the Coombe Down area on the edge of Bath. It just keeps growing. We discussed creating a real underground society where we outcasts could live and oprerate, just emerging for supplies. We are under oath not to reveal our discoveries and the core group of coconspirators have sealed our commitment in blood, even when our maps are completed they shall remain closely guarded and any one wanting our maps has to be vetted by at least 2 of the subterrania commitee of 3 and must explain thier reasons for wanting to enter the underworld. The authorities are not only helpful but actively against our work so I cant reveal too much. One aspect is the MOD network where some say 5000 worked underground.
The three primary systems are the MOD network, the Reformation network and the quarry networks, these are split between three companies. There are safety issues, one of our number nearly died falling down one of the many trap pits dug to stop chasing Protestants, should they have found the tunnels. Head torch and hand torch, check floor first, ceiling next for potential cave ins then and only then, check out the walls which are of most interest.
I have also been studying the alphabrtical list of known Demons that can be found on line. The work on the underworld and my personal work on the Demon Boxes leads , innevitably to the priesthood, a body we distrust. The Exorcist who I had planned to work with on the Demon Boxes is shying off. I am looking for another Exorcist with a broad knowledge of demonology and, if possible, some historic understanding of the Catholic necessity for the priest escape network in this area. Many, when questioned, prove to be charlatans, non believers that treat Demons as paranoid fantasy. Finding the right person will be difficult. Someone who can accept our subterranian activities, demonology and the importance of this work.
The funniest moment was being told by a priest that I was living in a dream world. There he stood in ceremonial robes, I stood in steel toe capped boots, hard hat, jeans and high viz jacket. It was clear his understanding of the underworld was non existant.
