Asking an addict if they are clean these days, is like asking a schizophrenic if they are still mad. They are both conditions that at best can hope to be managed. The word mad is as insulting as clean. The inference being that drug addicts are dirty. And all those oh so crazy, zany types who brag of how mad they are, let them spend a day with real psychosis and see if they still aspire to being mad.
