Capture Myopathy

When I was a child I saw a boy catch a field mouse. I had been warned by my father not to pick up wild animals, not for fear of being bitten but for what exposure to them can cause. Capture myopathy is a natural response where a captured and restrained animal has a surge of adrenalin sufficient to kill it. This leads me to wonder about the many cases where the police claim to have only restrained a person yet found them dead. There are similar cases of infant mortality that appear to have little reason. Is it such a stretch to think that, being animals we have a similar capacity to self destruct.
