The folly of Faith

I need to swiftly clarify a point that I was asked about following some earlier postings on atheism. I am not merely against organised religion. What concerns me far more is how the concept of faith, belief with no evidence, has heald back our progress for centuries. Scientific advances have improved our world and continue to add to our sense of wonder and compassion for each other and our environment. Just a few hundred years ago epileptics were murdered through the belief that they were possessed by demons. Now we understand better. As we evolve and leave religion behind much of the tribal separatism begins to dissolve in to the past. None of us know what is really going on, only fools think they know it all. The one aspect we need to work on is our empathy and understanding of the suffering of those not from our tribe. Abandoning any remaining belief in the supernatural is a major step toward a more compassionate humanism.

  2. Hmm....I agree with you regarding fools who think they know it all, and working on our empathy and understanding. Are you a fool for thinking that you know there is no God? Should you work on empathy towards those who have nothing, not even shelter or food, except their faith in a loving God?
