Resorting to Language

If someone resorts to violence it is generally thought that their argument has failed. Struggling to succeed with language we drop to a simpler, baser domain. Without the skill to communicate in the medium of language we lash out. When a visual artist fails to express themselves, they sometimes do the same thing. Not resort to violence but shift domains. If the artist is frustrated at their inability to communicate through art, they resort to language. If they insufficiently developed they may just use a phrase. A line of text. Often in neon. There are, of course, artists who use language but these are called writers and are very skilled in the use of words. Visual artists seldom are.
