Swedish child sailor makes start at record attempt

Sonja Svinkl, aged 2 and 3 months is believed to be the youngest female to sail round the world single handed. Australian 16 year old Jessica Watson thought she was clever till Dutch Laura Dekker, 14 years old set off. Now two years and three months old Svinkl has launched her two mast ketch with a beam of 12ft 6 in. The boat was bought from funds she earned working as a model in Pampers adverts. The 38 ft 'Yuppy' , a Jeannean Gin Fizz will make its' first stop in Madiera. Hopefully the intrepid toddler will be able to record her trip and is using no support ships or radio help. The childs father, a sailor himself said, 'She grew up around boats and, as far as I can understand her, is very wise and impatient to get started, changing her own nappies in rough seas may prove a problem but I feel sure she has a good chance,'
